Camera Shopping

So after my garage sale I will be ready to buy my digital camera! I have been shopping around and can't decide which is best suited for me.
I am going to create a poll in the next post. So feel free to vote if you have some knowledge of these cameras.
If you want to leave me a comment about them please feel free!

Here is what I am looking for. I want something that I can take portraits with so I don't have to take Mia to the photographer, I want to do it myself. I want pictures that I can blow up big to frame and hang on the wall. I want something versatile. I want something that isn't too burdensome to carry around. I want something that takes amazing pictures. I may be dreaming! LOL
I think I am trying to decide between the Nikon Coolpix P80 (1st pic) which is a top of the line point and shoot camera and the Nikon D60 (2nd pic) which is an SLR camera. But I don't really know. If you have any info on these two cameras or others that are really good leave me a comment!!! HELP!

Unfortunately I know nothing about the Nikons (heard they're good, though), but I own a Canon E51S and love it!

It's very easy to use...has a ton of different settings...is 8 megapixels with a 12x optical zoom...even shoots video. Like I said, I LOVE it!!!!

Good luck with your decision!

You might want to take a look at this post on Digital Photography Review. It highlights some good points that might help you decide...

Use this link to get there.

And remember, whatever you buy, take LOTS of pictures!

If you want to take portraits of Mia yourself, get an SLR. Point and shoots suck for this. I had what I thought were 2 nice pics of Jensen and when I went to Ritz to print them on the machine, his head was cut off both pics. With an SLR, what you see is what you get:)

I have heard that SLR is THE ONLY way to go when you are purchasing a higher end digital camera. Especially if you want to shoot & shoot & shoot a bunch in a row with no delay which is a wiggly little one on the move is totally a necessity to be able to do, right? Thomas says when it comes time for us to upgrade our digital that we have now, we will most certainly be going with an SLR.

Good luck with your choice! & good luck with your garage sale. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Hey Sara,

Aaron has a D50 for film and a D70s (or D80s) for the digital body. I'd definitely lean towards it of the two. If you have a good film SLR, I'd stick to the same brand since you can keep using the same lenses then. We've won contests and had photos in travel books from ours, def. better than most posed shots.

I have a Cannon Rebel and love it. Stephanie Wise (her link is on my blog) is a photographer and was really helpful to me when I was looking for a camera. Just thought I'd pass that on! Hope your enjoying your summer! :)
